Increasing service temperatures and compact, space-saving designs are the demands of the engine generations of the future. High performance materials from PLANSEE are best suitable for applications in engines because of their mechanical, chemical, physical and tribological properties.Components made of DENSIMET with densities up to 18,5 g/cm3 are well-suited for highly effective crankshaft and flywheel balance weights in standard production cars, in racing, shipping or the industrial engine sector.
PLANSEE supplies:
- balance weights made of DENSIMET ready for installation
- semi-finished products made of DENSIMET
Coating of Automotive Components
For many years piston rings have been coated by flame spraying with molybdenum to improve wear and frictional properties. In addition a growing application in engine manufacturing is the internal coating of cylinders by plasma spraying. More and more manufacturers are replacing cast iron cylinder blocks with aluminium for weight saving. Up to now these have used cast iron inserts for wear resistance in the cylinders: in future this task will be taken over by plasma spraying. This will make the construction of compact engine designs possible.
PLANSEE supplies:
- Molybdenum spray wire
- Electrodes and nozzles in tungsten-copper
