High-Temperature Furnace Construction

Today high-temperature furnaces and processing plant fitted with refractory metal components make it possible to reach temperatures of up to 3000 C in vacuum or protective atmospheres. They are used in many fields of modern technology : in vacuum brazing, in sintering technology, in heat treatment as well as in research and development.

Refractory metals have various advantageous properties for use in high-temperature processing plant : a high melting point and a correspondingly low vapour pressure, low thermal expansion coefficient and heat capacity as well as excellent hot strength and creep strength. Through the development of special high-performance alloys based on Mo and W (such as TZM, MLR, WVM etc) PLANSEE has succeeded in significantly improving the structural stability and creep strength in comparison to the pure metals.
