Competence in forming technology

The exceptional characteristics of our materials, such as high temperature strength, hardness and flow characteristics, demands forming technology which is really out of the ordinary. The following processes have been optimized by PLANSEE with special consideration given to the forming of high performance materials.

Forging
At PLANSEE, sintered rods are forged to their specified final diameter by means of modern forming aggregates, such as radial forging machines. These technologies guarantee optimal mechanical properties for the rods' entire cross sections.

Rolling
Currently, PLANSEE is operating a rolling mill for refractory metals with the world's greatest rolling force of 30,000 kNewton. The mill used for the manufacture of hot- and cold-rolled sheets or ribbons with a thickness between 6mm and 50 mm is fully automated.

Grooved Rolling
Prematerials for wires and thin rods are formed by means of continuous rolling procedures in order to guarantee optimal properties for further processing.

Drawing
In our drawing mill, rolled prematerials are reduced under high temperatures to their desired final dimensions by means of diamond and carbide tools.

Flow Forming and Deep Drawing
At PLANSEE all tools, heating technologies and machining parameters are always optimised. The variety of existing installations enables the manufacture of very different drawing parts under variable conditions. This for example enables to produce crucibles made of refractory metals with diameters between 1.0 and 800 mm.
