PLANSEE starts operation of a new hot-forging machine [06/09/2004]
After more than three years’ planning and construction phase, on 2 July 2004 a new hot-forging machine for large tungsten and molybdenum rods started operation. Investments including the infrastructure for the facility amounted to approx. 9 million EUR. The unit represents an essential part of the modernization of the rod and wire production department, an ongoing project for several years. Only 3 years ago in this context a rod rolling facility also began production.
Having invested a total of 20 million EUR, the Business Division High Performance Materials underline their world-leadership in the production of refractory metals. For the production site of Reutte, which represents PLANSEE’s central point for the production of refractory metals, this measure is an important step in the direction of long-term consolidation of international competitiveness. Both the high degree of automation of the facility and the replacement of partly obsolete machines considerably upgrade the quality of the workplace and safety of the staff.
