"PLANSEE inside"
[24/03/2006]
The new 25 Euro silver-niobium coin “European satellite navigation” is dedicated to the European project GALILEO. It’s the fourth coloured bimetal coin to be released in cooperation with the mint “Münze Österreich” and PLANSEE. The coin consists of a silver outer ring and a golden-brown core element that has been manufactured in the PLANSEE facilities Reutte and Liezen. | “Anodic oxidation” gives the light-grey niobium a thin oxide film before it is bonded with the silver ring. Through light refraction interference colours result, which give the metal its golden-brown colour. After joining the two metals, coining is realised at the Austrian mint.
The face of the coin shows a globe that is circuited by navigation satellites in their orbits. In the silver ring different means of transportation are shown that are supported by navigation satellites, such as a plane, a containership, the power head of a high speed train, a truck and an emergency vehicle.
In the niobium part of the other side of the coin a wind rose is shown. The writing within the wind rose features the geographical coordinates of the Austrian mint in Vienna.
The coin is a legal means of payment in the Republic of Austria.
