Mathematical simulation for glass tank reinforcements [21/11/2006]
The glass tank reinforcements have proven within the last 5 years that these products can help the glass industry to increase their productivity, the glass quality and as a major fact the lifetime of a glass tank. In total more than 60 projects were realized within the different fields of glass applications. Soda lime glass, borosilicate glass and opal glass productions are successfully using the molybdenum protections to prevent the heavy corrosion of the refractory bricks in critical areas.
Although a lot of investigations were already made for the behavior of molybdenum and its SIBOR® coating in contact with the glass melt, one open aspect of discussion was so far not detailed proven by investigations: What is the influence of a certain amount of molybdenum sheets in a glass tank in the field of an electrical heating system? This is relevant for fossil heated glass tanks with a boosting system and for all electrical melters and so far always caused different opinions.
Together with our partner Glass Service this influence was investigated by a mathematical modellation. A comparison between a soda lime glass tank and the same tank equipped with glass tank reinforcements for doghouse, bubbler, cross-wall and throat channel was done. At the same time an analysis of the influence of the electrode positions in accordance to the molybdenum protections was calculated.
Read more about the results of these investigations which clearly can deny the doubts of a negative influence to the electrical field or a change in the temperature distribution in a glass tank and download the complete Proceedings, presented as a lecture at the DGG conference 2006 in Dresden, Germany
