In comparison to pure Ta the alloying of tantalum with 2.5 % tungsten increases the tensile strength by approximately 40 % whereas the elongation at fracture is nearly the same. This increase of tensile strength continues up to 1600 °C.
Advantages of Ta2.5W:
- higher strength at elevated temperatures than pure tantalum
- better corrosion resistance (e.g. comparable to H2SO4)
Typical areas of application:
- heat exchangers for the chemical apparatus engineering
