Each year, the Confederation of Indian Industry recognizes companies that place a particular emphasis on quality. At the 38th State Level Quality Circle Competition, Plansee India took home the award for "Optimum Quality – Rejection Reduction in the Machining Line".
Held in August in Bengaluru, India, this year's competition centered on the theme of "Partnerships for sustainable and integrative growth". More than 50 companies with over 300 participants from a range of sectors signed up for the competition and presented case studies on specific projects at their workplaces. Their presentations were assessed based on aspects relating to the Quality Circle's activities, including selecting issues to be addressed as well as analyzing, resolving, and preventing them.
What is a quality circle?
A quality circle is a working group made up of employees who meet together regularly to discuss quality issues. In addition to encouraging participation and creativity on the part of employees, these meetings help them develop their skills and abilities.
The team at Plansee India showed that they had achieved a real reduction in the scrap rate on the machining refractory metals production line from 9.53% to 3.6% by implementing a range of QC tools, flowcharts, and Q.wiki concepts. Thanks to these efforts, scrap-related costs have fallen significantly over the past three years. PDCA (plan, do, check, and act) methods proved effective in helping to reduce scrap.
Our team achieved a fantastic result at the 38th State Level Quality Circle Competition 2024 and really stood out thanks to the special effort they put into preparing and presenting their case study. Congratulations to everyone involved!
