Plansee apprentices in the USA

Last summer, trainees Olaf Sierck and Burak Alca from the training center in Reutte spent six weeks working and living in the US.

Learning a technical profession and gaining experience abroad

The Plansee Group gives apprentices at the Reutte site who perform particularly well and demonstrate initiative the chance to work at one of the company's many sites worldwide and get to know the culture there for a period of six weeks. For Olaf Sierck and Burak Alca, fourth-year apprentices in machining technology, this wish came true: Last summer, they worked at Plansee USA and lived in Franklin, not far from the East Coast in the US.

Between the beach and the milling machine

The Plansee Group's global sites make components and tools from the metals tungsten and molybdenum for the production of high-tech applications. Plansee USA is Plansee's center of expertise for the North American market. Specializing in machining and assembly in clean rooms, the company produces complex components for various industries such as furnace construction and the aerospace and semiconductor industries. Olaf and Burak joined the team in Production there, where they worked on milling machines and CNC lathes and gained an insight into the site's training center. Above all, the trip helped them to improve their English skills. "We were able to learn technical terms directly during the working day," says Burak.

The pair also used their time in the US to explore the country together, including visits to nearby Boston, the Niagara Falls and New York, and returned home with lots of new memories. "Our colleagues on site were also very welcoming and interested in us and our day-to-day work in Austria. After work, we often went to a beach nearby in Rhode Island with them," says Olaf.

Global career opportunities

Apprentices at the Plansee Group in Reutte are trained in an ultramodern training center that includes an in-house vocational school, as well as in the plants. After completing their training, the young skilled workers have a great chance of being hired and starting their strong careers—in Tyrol or at other sites worldwide.

The Plansee Group is currently looking for new apprentices to start in fall.
