Plansee Receives ASML Excellence Award for its Commitment to Sustainability

Plansee High Performance Materials was awarded the Sustainability Excellence Award 2022 by ASML for its sustainability strategy. This was largely thanks to the measures that Plansee has implemented with regard to environmental protection, social responsibility, and sustainable company management.

Dutch company ASML is the world market leader in lithography systems for manufacturing computer chips, which are used across all areas of daily life. Within the scope of its annual Supplier Days, ASML recognizes suppliers for their excellent performance. Plansee HPM was awarded the Sustainability Excellence Award 2022 in the Netherlands at the end of September. 

This was largely thanks to Plansee's sustainability strategy. This encompasses environmental topics such as 100% use of renewable energy, a group-wide tungsten recycling rate of 74%, and the ambitious goal of becoming CO2-neutral by 2030. For many years, Plansee has also guaranteed customers that raw materials are procured exclusively from socially, ethically, and ecologically sustainable sources, while observing strict guidelines in accordance with the globally applicable Code of Conduct.

In addition to implementing its own measures to become even more sustainable, sustainability is also at the heart of Plansee's collaboration with ASML. The focus here is on extending the service life of components by means of refurbishment or repair. "If components really have come to the end of their service life and can neither be reused nor refurbished, we can recycle these for ASML. We therefore maintain an overview of the complete life cycle management in order to make this even more sustainable," says Andreas Feichtinger, Managing Director of Plansee HPM.

Throughout its long customer relationship with ASML, Plansee has familiarized itself with how the company operates and has a detailed understanding of the challenges involved. "We have acquired a huge amount of expertise and pursued forward integration all the way through to the assembly of entire components in our own clean room. We are now also involved in the development phase of components, which is something we are very proud of," says Damir Blazevic, Head of the Business Division Electronics.

Receiving the Sustainability Excellence Award has given us the motivation to remain an innovation partner to ASML and to work together on sustainability topics long into the future. Plansee HPM will be donating the prize money of 2,500 euros to India via the Don Bosco foundation center. This will provide children with a school education.
