In his welcoming address, Karlheinz Wex, member of the Executive Board of the Plansee Group, emphasized the importance of the two largest Plansee Group locations in Breitenwang/Reutte, Austria, and Mamer, Luxembourg and the outstanding cooperation between them. "After we merged our carbide activities in 2002, the turnover of the Ceratizit Group tripled as a result of organic growth and acquisitions."

Wex saw the imbalance in the price of tungsten between China and the West and barriers to the import and export of carbide scrap for recycling as being detrimental to trade. During the subsequent tour through the production facilities of Ceratizit Austria, Ambassador Marc Ungeheuer and his three-member delegation were able to see for themselves the highly automated and internationally competitive production of carbide products for cutting tools.
