The Dutch company ASML is the world market leader for lithography systems to produce computer chips, which are used in many different areas of our daily lives. As part of its annual Supplier Days, ASML honours suppliers for their outstanding performance. Plansee HPM received the Sustainability Excellence Award 2022 in the Netherlands at the end of September.
The decisive factor is the sustainability strategy pursued by Plansee. This includes environmental projects such as 100 percent use of renewable energies, a group-wide tungsten recycling rate of 74 percent, and the major goal of becoming CO2 neutral in 2030. Plansee has also guaranteed its customers for many years that it procures raw materials exclusively from socially, ethically, and ecologically sound sources, as well as adhering to strict guidelines in accordance to the globally valid Code of Conduct.
In addition to Plansee's own measures to become even more sustainable, the concept of sustainability also plays a major role in the cooperation with ASML. The focus is on extending the product lifetime of components through refurbishment or repair. "If components are really at the end of their life cycle and can neither be reused nor refurbished, we can recycle them for ASML. So we have a complete life cycle management perspective to make it even more sustainable," says Andreas Feichtinger, Executive Director at Plansee HPM.
